Here's Everything you need to know about Editing Direct Messages on iOS using X (previously Twitter).
Consider all the occasions when you have sent a message and afterwards realised that you made a mistake.
Imagine noticing right away in a direct message that you spelt something wrong or omitted something crucial.
Previously, you were forced to either accept the error or send a follow-up communication. Fortunately, X (previously Twitter) has released a new tool that lets you edit your direct messages.
This much-requested functionality, which was first accessible for Android and the web, is now available for iOS users.
How to modify a direct message on iOS device X
On X, editing a direct message is quite simple:
1. Update the iOS app for X.
2. Start a direct message discussion.
3. To edit a message, either long-press on it or tap the three dots menu next to it.
4. Choose Edit message, edit as necessary, and then click save.
The recipient of an iOS message will only see the updated version with the label "Edited" next to it, even if they have already seen the original version. Clarity and honesty in interactions will be ensured as the original message will no longer be available.

There’s also
no time limit for when you can edit a message, so whether it’s a recent DM
or something you sent ages ago, you’re free to make changes.
But you can
only edit a message five times, so use your edits wisely. Also, keep in
mind that images and encrypted DMs cannot be edited yet,
although X says its engineers are working on it.
For security
reasons, X keeps a log of all edited messages, but at the moment, there’s
no visible version history for users to track changes within edited
DMs—unlike how the platform handles edited posts.
Opinions?
This feature, in my opinion, is long overdue. It's about time X catch up to other messaging services like WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessage, which have been allowing users to edit messages for some time now.
Having more control over what we communicate makes reasonable, especially in light of the fact that our short direct messages don't always turn out as planned.
I'm not sure how many times I've sent a message and then realised I should have clarified or changed a few words. The editing feature feels like a true game-changer, whether it's correcting a typo or changing the tone.
